A Y_ C O R N E T
May Cornet was born in London in 1975. She lived there until recently when
she moved her home and studio to Suffolk. She grew up in an intensely creative
family. She spent childhood holidays in Walberswick, where she developed
her love for the Suffolk coast.
After graduating from Goldsmiths College in 1998 she was awarded a scholarship
from the Italian Cultural institute to live and work in Venice. In 2003 she
was artist in residence at Walsall New Art Gallery, a project sponsored by
Tate Partnerships. In 2010 she had a solo exhibition at Thomas Gibson Fine
Art, London. In 2007 her work was shown in Blickaschen sculpture biennale in
Germany for which she won the young artist award. Her work has been in several
group exhibitions including Passionate Collectors, Walsall New Art Gallery
(2006); Le Cabinet de Dessins at Le Musee Moderne de St Etienne, France (2006)
and Il Giardino, PAN Museum Naples, Italy (2006).
